How many of you are staying in your pajamas or sweat pants while you are on stay in place, during this COVID-19 pandemic? If you have answered affirmatively to the first question, then this probably means you are taking a hiatus from wearing makeup and doing your hair too. I am not suggesting that you dress to the nines with a full face of makeup daily, but I am saying that PJ’s and at lounge wear are not conducive to productivity and emotional health. There is a definite connection between how we dress and our emotional state. In fact, what we wear has an impact on how we feel about ourselves. When we know we are isolated and alone, we may lose our motivation for self-care.
Why get out of your PJ’s or workout wear when you are stuck at home all day? Well here are several reasons why? Staying in your PJ’s, for days on end, establishes your mood and literally and figuratively keeps you “stuck.” Yes, you are now stuck in place, but you do not need to be emotionally and physically stuck too. Not getting dressed may cause both emotional and physical issues. It may compromise your happiness, self-esteem, motivation, and discipline. Many people who are trying to continue to work from home lack the work ethic which they experience in the office. They become inattentive, disinterested, bored, unimaginative and complacent. When this happens, we sacrifice the quality and quantity of work which we accomplish. When we are in PJ’s and lounge wear we look, feel and perform unprofessionally. When we are dressed in work attire we put our best self forward. So get dressed and get out of the Pj’s.
