Let it Snow…. By: Brianna Korb Sculpted Escapes

Winter Time = Winter Fun! They can’t all be bluebird days, but thanks to the great partners in the Virtuoso network, you’ll feel as cozy as an après-ski hot toddy by the fire on your next ski vacation. There’s no shortage of options for hitting the slopes. Anywhere that has mountains and snow works. Of course, some experiences are better than others. These getaways will have you tearing fresh lines in the powder with no worries.

Vermont

Twin Farms, a favorite resort among guests, occupies more than 300 acres of forest, meadows, and ponds, not to be outdone. Feel free to explore on your own or take a guided tour. In any season, there’s no end to the activities. Winter is particularly suitable for skiing — cross-country or downhill — and sledding. The sister property to Winvian Farm, Pitcher Inn is a boutique property just minutes from some of the Northeast’s best ski slopes. Each room is beautifully and dutifully appointed to fit its unique theme.

Colorado

Colorado is at the top of any skier’s list with a whopping 53 mountains peaking at 14,000 feet or higher. There are more than a dozen Virtuoso-preferred ski resorts across the state, so there’s undoubtedly one for you. For a set itinerary, Virtuoso has a Colorado Luxury Winter Adventure 10-day package split between Aspen’s The Little Nell and Dunton Hot Springs just across the mountain from Telluride. The itinerary features cross-country skiing, heli-skiing, snowmobiling, and dog mushing for a real mountain adventure. Ideas abound at The Hotel Jerome Aspen or the Four Seasons Resort Vail.

It’s not just a winter ski paradise. Your favorite ski resorts, such as The Little Nell in Aspen and the Sebastian in Vail, show off the grandeur of the Rockies. When not blanketed in snow, the mountains make for prime hiking, with wildflowers in bloom and gorgeous changing leaves in the fall. In the western part of the state, Gateway Canyons Resort and Dunton Hot Springs have modern takes on the cowboy experience, with restored log cabins and 4-wheeler excursions going in hand in hand. Gateway Canyons is offering a fourth-night free promotion for select dates, and a dip in natural hot springs at Dunton is the height of relaxation.

Utah

Book a stay at the Montage Deer Valley. Many resorts include Virtuoso amenities in their packages. Exclusive amenities are also available at the Waldorf Astoria Park City, Sundance Mountain Resort, St. Regis Deer Valley, and Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City.

Washington

Peaking at 14,410 feet above sea level in Washington, Mount Rainier is a land of fire and ice. Still an active volcano, it is also the most glaciated peak in the continental U.S. The park is open year-round, featuring winter sports and ranger-guided snowshoe walks, brilliant fall colors, abundant waterfalls in the spring as the snow melts, and bountiful flowers and berries in summer. Humans have lived in the area of the mountain native tribes called Takhoma for at least 9,000 years, and its modern name comes from Rear Admiral Peter Rainier, a friend of British Royal Navy Captain George Vancouver, who explored extensively around the Pacific Northwest.

Minnesota

Unlike Isle Royale, which closes from Nov. 1-April 15, Voyageurs Park in Minnesota stays open all winter. Visitors can explore by snowmobile, cross-country skis, snowshoes, or driving along the ice road. The time-honored Minnesota tradition of ice-fishing goes on all winter. On the good nights, the Northern Lights put on a show across the sky, and in summer, the August Perseids meteor shower dazzles. Lakes makeup about 40 percent of the park and are its lifeblood, becoming a highway to adventure when the ice melts.
